Yeree Suh

Korean soprano Yeree Suh has made her professional début in 2003 as La Ninfa in Monteverdi’s L'Orfeo conducted by René Jacobs, and covered the same role one year later at the Deutsche Staatsoper (Berlin) and at the Theater an der Wien (Vienna). Since then she has been collaborating with the most prominent conductors in the field of early music: Philippe Herreweghe, Ton Koopman, Sigiswald Kuijken, Václav Luks, Andrea Marcon, Andreas Spering, Jean-Christophe Spinosi und Masaki Suzuki. With Concerto Köln and German actor/entertainer Harald Schmidt she has gone on tour in the role of Mademoiselle Silberklang in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor.

At the same time, Yeree Suh has achieved international prominence in impressive renditions of contemporary repertoire. Thus, for instance, she sang the European première of Matthias Pintscher’s fantasia With lilies white with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester conducted by Kent Nagano; she sang George Benjamin’s A Mind of Winter with Frankfurt RSO led by Paavo Järvi, and Ligeti’s Mysteries of the Macabre with the Ensemble Intercontemporain under the baton of Susanna Mälkki. Further highlights in her career as an interpreter of new music include her renditions of Boulez’s Le soleil des eaux in Lucerne (with Pablo Heras-Casado) and in Seoul (with Peter Eötvös).

Ms Suh’s début recording “Musik der Hamburger Pfeffersäcke” with the Hamburg Elbipolis Baroque Orchestra was released to great acclaim in 2008. Her other recordings include the role of Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (with Leonardo García Alarcón on the Ambronay label), works by Judith Bingham (on the Resonus Classics label), Handel’s Dixit Dominus under the baton of Pierre Cao, Bach’s Easter Oratorio, further cantatas for solo soprano (including BWV 52) and other assorted Bach cantatas with Sigiswald Kuijken, Orff’s Carmina Burana (on the ZigZag Territoires label), “A Schubertiade” (with Jos van Immerseel), and Respighi’s Lauda per la Natività del Signore (with the Berlin Radio choir on the Carus label).

Yeree Suh studied voice at Seoul National University, then in the class of Harald Stamm at Berlin University of the Arts, and with Regina Werner-Dietrich in Leipzig. She specialized in early music with Gerd Türk at the Schola Cantorum in Basel.
